IBHS Research Finds Ember-Resistant Buffer Halves Wildfire Ignition Risk

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS; Richburg, S.C.), a nonprofit research organization focused on strengthening homes and communities against natural disasters, has reported that creating an ember-resistant buffer in the first five feet around a house can cut its risk of igniting in a wildfire by half. Researchers note that much of the work to establish this zone can be done by homeowners themselves.
